EKG | Electrocardiography

About an EKG

EKG or Electrocardiography is a test that records the heart’s electrical activity. It shows whether the rhythm of your heartbeat is steady or irregular. Doctors use the electrocardiogram to analyze the patterns of the heart beats and rhythms to diagnose various heart conditions.
The test shows the problems of heart valves, heart beat and arteries.

How an EKG is Conducted

EKG is a painless, non-invasive and harmless test that takes about 10 minutes to complete. To begin with the procedure, the technician or nurse will attach soft, sticky patches called Electrodes to the patient’s chest, arms and legs. In some cases, the chest needs to be shaved before attaching the electrodes. The electrodes are connected to a machine that traces the patient’s heart activity on a special graph paper.
